Tobacco Prevention

Tobacco Prevention – Akeela operates a program in Anchorage aimed at providing tobacco use prevention activities for programs such as substance abuse treatment services in which tobacco use is prevalent. Educational efforts and aids such as patches and supportive medical assistance are made available.

Akeela’s Tobacco Prevention Program is designed to assist behavioral health treatment programs in Anchorage recognize and incorporate tobacco use dependence/nicotine addiction treatment into the treatment modality. The purpose of this is to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke in this disparate population. Resource and policy information including technical assistance with organizational policy development are a part of this program. Any questions regarding specialized cessation counseling and nicotine replacement therapy items are referred to Alaska’s Tobacco Quit Line @ 1-800-QUIT NOW.
